What to Expect When Visiting Paris, Ile-de-France, France

Set out from Paris in the morning and discover two of the region’s most beautiful landmarks: the Palace of Fontainebleau (a UNESCO World Heritage Site), and the charming village of Barbizon, home to the -Barbizon School,’ a group of influential 19th-century painters. This private, 11-hour tour includes pickup and drop-off directly at your Paris accommodation, and will see you travel in a comfortable, private vehicle.

Your full-day tour of Fontainebleau and Barbizon begins with a 7am pickup, directly at your Paris accommodation. Via comfortable, private vehicle, you’ll motor outside of the city and to the southeast, where these two stunning landmarks are located.

The first stop is the Palace of Fontainebleau: a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and one of the most beautiful royal landmarks in France. A sovereign residence for an incredible eight centuries, the palace was once home to numerous French dynasties. Explore its beautiful gardens, admire its vast collection of art, and otherwise drink in the stunning ambiance. The palace grounds includes 130 acres of parks and gardens, while the palace itself has over 1,500 rooms; spend several hours seeing as much of it as you can.

After your tour of the Palace of Fontainebleau, indulge in a traditional lunch in a regional French restaurant, at your own expense. Once lunch has concluded, it’s off to the second main destination of the day: the picturesque village of Barbizon.

Located at the edge of the Fontainebleau Forest, Barbizon was home to the “Barbizon School” of 19th-century French painters, including the likes of Jean-François Millet and Théodore Rousseau. Visit the village’s Barbizon School Museum to learn more about its artistic past. You can also enjoy a visit to Millet’s local artistic studio.

The tour winds down in the late afternoon. Hop back in your private vehicle and head back to Paris, where you’ll be deposited directly at your accommodation at around 6pm.
