Visit: Abbaye du Mont-Saint-Michel, Bp 22 Au sommet du village, 50170 Mont-Saint-Michel France

Discover Mont-Saint-Michel abbey, one of the first UNESCO World Heritage Sites, evidence of the mastery and expertise of several generations of builders.

Located on the boundary of Normandy and Brittany, Mont-Saint-Michel served as a crossroads and a fortification for the Duchy of Normandy.

The numerous conflicts of the Hundred Years War between France and England required the construction of new, formidable fortresses.

The construction began in the 10th century and was completed in the 19th century, resulting in a wide range of architectural styles. Throughout the Middle Ages, the historical, political, and economic circumstances had a significant impact on the methods employed. The Abbey has seen several modifications over the ages, including fires, collapses, reconstructions and restorations. The Abbey church, situated on the pinnacle of the Mount at an altitude of 80 meters, lies on an 80-meter-long platform with four crypts carved into the rock spur.
