Itinerary

Stop At: Clermont Auvergne Tourisme – Bureau de Royat Chamalieres, 1 avenue Auguste Rouzaud, 63130 Royat, Clermont-Ferrand France
The park extends from the village of Royat, runs along the Tiretaine river and serves as a setting for the thermal architectural heritage.
In the lower part of the thermal park, we find the thermal establishment built in the 1850s as well as the casino, two buildings which contribute to the architectural richness of Royat.
During your walk, you will have the opportunity to admire the remains of the Gallo-Roman thermal baths discovered in 1876 or the Eugenie refreshment bar and its blue mosaics. It was named in honor of Empress Eugenie and her husband Napoleon III, who visited the thermal baths in 1862.
In the upper part of the park, the “geoscope”, an educational circuit, lets you discover the local geology through rock samples dotted around the park as well as children’s play areas.
Do not hesitate to climb to the heights of Royat (towards paradise) in order to observe the view of Clermont-Ferrand and to cross two castles on the way.

Stop At: Puy-de-Dome, Puy-de-Dome, Auvergne-Rhone-Alpes
This jewel of the Chaîne des Puys offers a unique panorama over the whole of the Chaîne, with its lakes, its flows, its escapes on the Sancy massif, the Limagne plain and Clermont-Ferrand. The Puy de Dôme rises to 1,465 meters and overlooks a set of 80 volcanoes.
It is about 15 km from Clermont-Ferrand (in the heart of the Regional Natural Park of the Volcanoes of Auvergne).
This puy offers several activities such as interpretation spaces, walks to its summit, the discovery of the temple of Mercury, a landscape reading table and a 360 ° panorama.
Among the walks, we advise you to go up by the mule track and down by the goat path in order to descend by the steps, which is more pleasant! You will also find many picnic points on the goat trail.
You can also take the panoramic shuttle which offers a splendid view of the entire chain, count € 15 round trip per adult.

Stop At: Lac de la Cassiere, Aydat France
Head towards Lake Aydat by making a detour via that of La cassière. The Lac de La Cassière, located at an altitude of 861m, prohibited for swimming, is reserved exclusively for fishing.
Born after a volcanic eruption, like Lac d’Aydat, Lac de La Cassière is of natural origin, formed by the flow of lava from the puys de la Vache and Lassolas.
It is known for the large variations in its water level which, to this day, remain unexplained.
A signposted walking circuit exists and allows you to go around the lake.

You can now park at the marius where by warning them a few minutes before you can load the vehicle while you indulge in all the activities that the lake has to offer!
Lake Aydat is the largest natural lake in Auvergne, it is the perfect type of volcanic dam lake: its waters have been retained by the “cheire” of Aydat. This body of water, with a maximum depth of 15 meters, on which you can canoe and fish, is surrounded by a wooded landscape. Lake Aydat is an exceptional excursion center. Sidoine Apollinaire, who already appreciated the site in the 5th century AD, is said to have built a country house on the small island that bears his name, near the north shore.
You are free to go for a swim or to go around the lake (5.5km).

Stop At: Musee Archeologique de la Bataille de Gergovie, Plateau de Gergovie, 63670 La Roche-Blanche France
This natural belvedere offers a privileged point of view on the plains of Limagne and the valley of Allier, and on the volcanoes of Auvergne. This ancient oppidum was the scene of the defeat of Julius Caesar before Vercingetorix in 52 BC.
