What to Expect When Visiting Bordeaux, Nouvelle-Aquitaine, France

We will meet at the historic and beautiful “Gross Cloche”-Bell Tower Gate. We then wind through the vibrant historic streets of Bordeaux – discovering hidden squares and charming back streets. As we wander by the city’s classic landmarks & hidden gems of bygone eras, I will share with you Bordeaux’s rich and dynamic history, including how it evolved around the wine trade.

We will start at the Grosse Cloche and wander through the vibrant up & coming Saint James Quarter, passing the Place Fernand Fargue and making our way toward the Place du Palais.

After visiting the Saint James Quarter, The tour will cross over Cours Alsace Lorraine and arrive at the Place du Palais with the Porte Cailhau at the entrance to the river side.

After exiting through the Porte Cailhau, we find ourselves at the Garonne river. We will wander along the beautiful riverside and arrive facing the Place de la Bourse. & the Statue of the 3 Graces. This is the quintessential view of Bordeaux and its original entrance from the river.

Pass By: Eglise St Pierre, Place Saint-Pierre, 33000, Bordeaux France

From the Quai side, we will return into the medieval cobblestone streets of the historic city center and make our way toward the Eglise Saint Pierre and the square surrounding it.

Exiting the Place Saint Pierre, we continue heading toward the Place du Parlement, the original market center back in medieval times. We will discuss its historical significance, how it has evolved throughout history and what it has become today.

Pass By: Place de la Comedie, 33000, Bordeaux France

From the Place du Parlement, we will continue winding our way toward the Place de la Comedie via the shopping street of Rue Saint Catherine – we will enjoy Bordeaux’s special pastry and then arrive at the Place de La Comedie.
This square is the heart and jewel of the 18th century redesign of the city. We will speak about it’s history and the buildings surrounding the square.

At the Place de la Comedie, we will see this beautiful Opera House and theatre and learn about it’s history, it’s architechtural style and you will learn about another famous landmark in France which it inspired.

Pass By: Monument aux Girondins, Esplanade des Quinconces, 33000, Bordeaux France

After speaking about the Place de la Comedie, we will look toward the. Quinconnces Square and view the Monument aux Girondins and discuss it’s significance and what it means to the people of Bordeaux.

Stop At: Bar a Vin, 1 cours du 30 Juillet, 33075, Bordeaux France

For the last 30 minutes of our tour, we will visit a lovely local wine bar which serves only regional wines by the glass and rotates their offerings on a monthly basis. There, you will learn more about the different Bordeaux wines and how they are organised & classified. You will be able to enjoy a glass of one of our local wines of Bordeaux – red, white, sweet, dry or sparkling.
