Since 1987, set in the heart of the city, the Musée d’Aquitaine retraces the history of the region, from prehistory through to the present day. The museum exposes rich regional and extra-european collections of archeology, history and ethnography. This “Museum of civilization” presents each years several temporary exhibitions about history and cultures of the world. It offers to public a varied cultural programming: lectures, screenings, round tables, guided tours, concerts, meetings with foreign communities, educational workshops… Easily accessible from the tram B (stop Musée d’Aquitaine) or A (stop City Hall / Hôtel de Ville).

The result of private investment from the entrepreneur Norbert Fradin, this museum presents exhibitions on the universal history of sea navigation, the key modern discoveries in oceanography and the new scientific conquest of the seas: all this over three floors. Many exhibitions are put on throughout the year.

Entrance before noon. La Cité du Vin is a unique cultural facility where wine comes to life through an immersive, sensorial approach, all set within an evocative architectural design. Situated to the south-east of the chevet of the Cathedral of Saint-André at Bordeaux, the tower of Pey-Berland serves as its bell tower, built in the 15th century in the Gothic style. The Port Cailhau, thirty-five metres tall, was integrated into the city walls. In 1864, it was rented by a public letter writer and a person whose job was to weigh salt. They were both evicted in order to renovate the monument. There is a magnificent view of the oldest bridge in Bordeaux, the Pont de Pierre, from here.
