We start visiting the hanging bridges of Mistico park. The guide is with you to help you learn about the ecosystem. Hiking over the bridges and trails you enjoy panoramic views of the surrounding forest, Arenal volcano and lake. From here we take a short drive to the park that's right at the foot of the volcano. We hike a trail through the big lava rocks from the '68 eruption Here we reach a viewpoint with amazing views of the Arenal volcano, the surrounding lava fields and the Northern valley. We then stop at a restaurant where they serve a wide variety of local-style dishes. Now it's time to get wet. A 20minuts hike through a jungle staircase takes you into a deep canyon to the immense la Fortuna waterfall. You can swim in the refreshing pool of the waterfall and hang around on the big rocks to relax for a while. La Fortuna Waterfall Reserve is a place where over 4 000 ml precipitation a year give you the chance to enjoy this majestic 210 feet high fall. A five hundred meters downhill hike will give you the chance to see it from the very bottom where a “natural pool” awaits if you want to swim in the fresh water of La Fortuna river.

The length of the tour is approximately four hours; from La Fortuna we have to go 5 ½ kilometers to the southeast. We spend 1 ½ hours to get to the rest site of the horses. A beautiful example of the Costa Rican country site will be found along the way, cattle farms and agriculture, also the chance to see some birds as oropendolas and tucans.

We begin the tour by heading to the El Silencio Private Reserve, to get as close to the base of the volcano as possible by vehicle. Next, we will walk approximately 1.5 kilometer along a volcanic stone path with a moderate degree of difficulty, until we reach the viewpoint, the closest point to volcano permitted to access. At the viewpoint, our guide will provide relevant information on the formation of the Arenal Volcano, its periods of activity, as well as unpublished details of its first eruption in 1968. You can also enjoy the excellent views of the Green Lagoon and Lake Arenal. On the guide’s indication, we will begin our descent back.
