Temples Rolous

Private One Day to Banteay Srei, Rolous Group and Kompong Phluk

In the morning you will travel to a small temple of Banteay Srei well known for its beautiful delicate carvings in warm pink sandstone. This late 10th century temple is fairly compact and very different from other Angkorian temples. Then, we go to the late 9th century Hindu temples Bakong, Lolei and Preah Ko form what is collectively known as the Rolous group located 15km west of Siem Reap. Explore the early capital of Angkor and the most impressive being the pyramid-like Bakong surrounded by moat still containing water today. In the afternoon you will travel to Kompong Phluk, an authentic stilted village on the edge of the great Tonle Sap Lake. The Khmer, Vietnamese and Cham people live in harmony with the rising and falling water levels of the lake. Fun fact: most households here own boats as well as motorbikes as their road becomes a water channel during the monsoon. The biggest attraction in this neighbourhood is the eerie Flooded Forest accessible by boat during the wet season.

Rolous Group Temples plus lunch with Sunset Tour

We visit three temples at what is today called Roluos. The site used to be the capital city of the Khmer Empire before it was moved briefly to Koh Ker and then permanently to Angkor Thom. Lolei is the northernmost temples situated inside the Roluos Group which were built in the late 9th century. All of the temples, Lolei, Preah Ko, and Bakong were Buddhist temples. In Preah Ko, you can see the 3 towers with stone lions and intricate carvings. After lunch, we'll visit a local village and market. You can see how the locals go about their everyday business and stop to look around a market where you can buy cheap gifts for your loved ones.  We'll then head over to Bakheng Mountain which was established in the early 10th century to see the wonderful view over Angkor Wat.

Beng Mealea Temple and Rolous Group

Beng Mealea was built as a Hindu temple, but some carvings depict Buddhist motifs. Its primary material is sandstone and it is largely unrestored, with trees and thick brush thriving amidst its towers and courtyards and many of its stones lying in great heaps. For years it was difficult to reach, but a road recently built to the temple complex of Koh Ker passes Beng Mealea and more visitors are coming to the site, as it is 77 km from Siem Reap by road.
