The Maputo Special Reserve continues to grow into an exciting animal reserve in one of the most unique of locations – right alongside the ocean. Our tour includes a chance to see a range of different animals and if the client would like we make it to this amazingly virgin coastline. Due to the tough terrain in the park it can still be difficult to experience this unique reserve – our economical safari will help more visitors breathe this unique bush and beach air.

Morning trip: Train No. 1232 At 8:20 am you can start your day with a wonderful drive from Badulla that will take you to historic Demodara by 9:10 am. The train travels through green hills and makes a short but magical stop at 9:28 am in Bridge of Nine Arches, so people can take pictures of the stunning views. The journey continues to Bandarawela, where travelers are given a 30-minute break to stretch their legs. Travelers then return, passing through Ella town, and complete the morning ride at 11:39 am in Demodara railway station. Afternoon Trip: Train No. 1234. The day trip starts at 12:50 pm from Demodara and heads to Bandarawela. Along the way, stop in Ella, which offers magnificent views of the mountains of Sri Lanka. After a relaxing stop in Bandarawela, the train departs at 14:35 and returns to Badulla. It makes its last stop at Demodara at 3:35 pm, leaving riders with memories to last a lifetime. *Train times can be change. In case of change, you will be notify.

The Reserve is located on Maputo Bay 100 kilometers from Maputo and it is a conservation area and its 1040 km2 big (only 173 Km2 smaller than New York City – water and land area), the reserve combines lakes, wetlands, swamp forests, grasslands, mangrove forests with a pristine coastline We have 2 main beach spots to camp at Maputo Special Reserve: Dobela and Membene. Driving around the reserve towards our campsite, you will find the vast open areas where elephants and other plain games refresh themselves; you will drive pass different fresh water lagoons with a lot of great variety of birds, hippos, and crocodiles.
