Inside of Fushimi Inari – exploring and lunch with locals


This is the original Fushimi hidden route tour. This is a 3-hour 30-minute hiking lead by locals. Soba noodle Lunch is included. You will experience the holy mountain of Fushimi through an alternative off-beaten path. This experience includes: 1) Sightseeing of the main shrine and thousands of red gates, with an explanation of their history and cultural background. 2) Easy walking through a peaceful bamboo and cedar tree forest path, visiting authentic holy spots (worship stones & waterfall) and a factory. 3) Going up a forest route to the summit shrine (20 min). The summit is 233m high, and I will show you around the shrine. 4) Photo-shooting part. On the way down, I will show you lots of photogenic spots that are usually less crowded. 5) Snack & drink, and the breathtaking panorama view of Kyoto city from the viewpoint. 6) Lunch at the best soba restaurant. You will need to be able to walk at a reasonable pace in a group environment and should expect to walk about 6.5 km or 4 miles in total over the 5.5 hours. You will also need to be able to walk up and down a large of number of stairs at subway stations. If you are not able to meet the walking requirement, the small group tour is not suitable for you, please contact us to change to a private tour.

On the way, I’ll explain the basics of Japanese Buddhism and the temple’s long history. At Jindaiji, we’ll stroll the quiet grounds and join a traditional *oharai* purification ritual. Inside the main hall, you’ll observe monks performing this ceremony, where sacred fire is still used—a rare tradition preserved over centuries. You purchase a protective *ofuda* charm. The purification ritual requires the purchase of “Ofuda”. The cost of the “Ofuda” is already included in the participation fee. Next, we’ll enjoy handmade soba noodles at a local restaurant with insights into the land, food, and history.
