Our Pickups begins bright and early, with pickups starting from 5:30 a.m. in summer and 6.am in winter seasons, We'll pick you up from your location and transfer you to Pico do Areeiro.
After enjoying the awe-inspiring sunrise, we'll arrange a pickup at the other end, allowing you to hike at your own pace. You'll start your hike from PICO DO AREEIRO to PICO RUIVO carkpark at Achada da Taxeira.

Stairways to Heaven: Sunrise & walk at Pico Areeiro – Guided

Witness Madeira’s legendary sunrise from Pico Areeiro (1818m), avoiding traffic queues, parking fees, and PR1 path access fees. Your adventure starts with a pickup at the Cristiano Ronaldo Museum, about an hour before sunrise, followed by a 35-40 minute drive to the peak.
Upon arrival and after a quick briefing we’ll hike along the iconic PR1 trail connecting Madeira’s highest peaks, making stops at breathtaking viewpoints like Ninho da Manta and the famous Stairways to Heaven ridge.
As the first light graces the horizon, you’ll capture unforgettable photos while soaking in the serene mountain atmosphere. The return hike showcases even more stunning views during the golden hour. The trek lasts 40-60 minutes, with stairs and night walking adding an adventurous touch.
This experience is about 3:30 hrs in total, from pickup to drop-off. Please note the trail may pose challenges, including potential vertigo. In case of unfavorable weather, we’ll reschedule or offer an alternative tour.

This walk starts at Pico do Areeiro, at approximately 1818 meters above sea level and we make our way to the highest point of Madeira, Pico Ruivo, around 1861 meters.
It is possible to witness panoramic views of Madeira over the central
mountain range that are absolutely breathtaking.
This is the only known breeding site in the world of Zino’s petrel (Pterodroma madeira), an endemic species considered to be the most endangered seabird of Europe.
In this area, the vegetation of altitude is predominant, mainly of Centenary endemic Urzes; these large trees predate Madeira’s discovery.
To reach Pico Ruivo, we must go around Pico das Torres up a steep incline of steps carved in the rock and then descend, the most difficult part of this trail being the final climb to the Shelter at Pico Ruivo. But the thought of reaching the highest point of the island is a driving force.
Near the Pico Ruivo shelter, we take footpath, which leads to Achada do Teixeira, where we finish our journey.

In springtime these plants proudly dress themselves in a myriad of colours, displaying their fragile flowers for all to see.
Near Pico Ruivo we walk through the oldest heather forest in existence. These ancient trees are many hundreds of years old and were already there when Zarco discovered and landed on the island for the first time. We soon arrive at Pico Ruivo (the highest point on the island) and the views from there are out of this world. Truly and as the saying goes "On a clear day you can see forever".

We continue our journey along the rural paths of Ribeiro Frio, making a brief stop at a local bar where we show off our traditional Poncha (optional).
We continue the tour along the agricultural roads that take us off-road through the Laurissilva forest to Santana, where we take a break to try the local cuisine (lunch) and get to know its culture, such as the Santana houses.
We resumed our walk, along the old roads to Miradouro do Guindaste.
We continue to the easternmost point of the island, Ponta de São Lourenço, ending our trip back to Funchal.
