Your tour will begin at the statue of Reverend Fred Shuttlesworth, the leader of the local movement Civil Rights struggle. We’ll discuss why the Civil Rights movement was needed and what led to segregation's fall. As you visit the major churches, parks and houses, you'll learn about a few groups who fought for Civil Rights in Birmingham and who fought against it.

She attended Wenonah Elementary, Riley Elementary and Jones Valley High Schools. Her earliest memories include the church, the civic league and the Civil Rights Movement. Heavy emphasis will be placed on Rosenwald educational system for Black students in Atlanta and Booker T Washington who was known as the Great Black Educator. Come and see the relationship between Alonzo Herndon, George Washington Carver, and Julius Rosenwald Foundation. Guests will see Atlanta Historic Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU), Georgia's first Black public high school and America's first Black city park. Booker T Washington High School was the first black public high school in Georgia and the first Black school in the Atlanta Public School System. Come and see how Dr. Martin Luther King Jr Grandfather organized the community to create a public high school for Black students in Atlanta. This same school is where Dr. Martin Luther King attended.
