El Quetzal de Mindo is the beginning of the Ruta de Cacao (Chocolate Route) in Ecuador. See the entire process of making chocolate at an artisan small batch scale. Tubing down a local river with rapids. If you prefer a more relaxing activity, then a hike across the cloud forest to visit the waterfalls of Mindo is the perfect option for you. In the afternoon, you may choose between visiting the chocolate factory to learn the process of the elaboration of chocolate, or the butterflies and hummingbirds farms. Mindo is a very quiet place located in a valley, in this tour we can see birds like the rooster of the rock, bright red, toucans, owls, hummingbirds, wild ducks, quetzales, blackbirds, carpenters among others. It also has approximately 2000 endemic plant species from Ecuador, including a wide variety of wild orchids and around of 40 different types of butterflies. Additionally, you will have the possibility to visit beautiful waterfalls where you can practice adventure sports or hiking, don't miss it!

We are departuring from the coordinated meeting point at 7:00am to head to the occident side of the city. We will have a busy day with some physical exercise & hiking. Our first stop will be at a beautiful restaurant & hummingbirds sanctuary where not only people stop by to eat but also dozens of hummingbirds eat too. We will enjoy a breakfast while watching these little colorful birds fly around. Our next stop: MINDO! our main cloud forest city. Once there we will head straight to the Cable car (Tarabita) to cross with amazing views of this cloud forest. Once in the other side, we will have a 40 minutes hiking to the Mindo Nambillo waterfall. Place where you will be able to swim and fresh up from the hiking trail. So bring a bathing suit and towel if interested. After this, we can choose one alternative option, butterflies sanctuary or chocolate factory, Zipline (Tickets not included) After this we will start the way back to Quito

After all of these exciting activities, you will have a break for lunch. Before departing from Mindo you will visit another special spot for birdwatching.
