The tea ceremony goes in a small group. The maximum number of people are 6 for each session.But during peak seasons, it will increase to a maximum of 8 people. Experience an authentic tea ceremony, which is near the Zen buddhist monastery Daitoku-ji Temple in Kyoto. Daitoku-ji had many famous priest graduates in the history and has a close relationship with tea ceremony culture which has given a major influence to Japanese culture. We are also not far from the World Cultural Heritage site, the Golden Pavilion Temple. (Kinkaku-ji)It's only four stops away by bus. You’ll be provided with a tea container, tea bowl, tea scoops and whisks, and instruction on how to make matcha. You’ll also enjoy two bowls of matcha and two kinds of Japanese sweets. Tea ceremony is a learned experience, and it leads to enlightenment, similar to Zen’s understanding of realizing the truth through self-discovery.

Chado, a tea ceremony that has roots in Zen, was established in Japan more than 400 years ago. Its fundamental form and style has never changed, and there are still many people studying and enjoying the culture worldwide. A Tea room is a space in which people experience mindfulness, and the tea-making process provides spiritual discipline. This is a chado school licensed from Urasenke Chado School in Kyoto, one of the biggest chado schools in the world. Ms. Mika Soka Haneishi, the owner of the school is a first degree instructor of Urasenke. She has been practicing Chado for over 25 years. This is not tourism—it is rather an immersion in culture.

Choose from a variety of kimono styles, including yukata, furisode, and samurai. Kimono rental shop YUI offers a vast array of kimono, ranging from easy to wear light kimono for street walks to traditionally made silk kimono for official occasions. The shop owner practices tea ceremony and will complement the experience with a short lesson on how to drink Matcha tea according to the Japanese traditions. If you are going to try on a kimono, we recommend using the photo plan. A professional photographer who is familiar with the nearby locations will accompany you and take wonderful portraits. We also have a studio, so you can take photos in a kimono even in the unlikely event of bad weather. The activity is also suitable for children above 1-year-old and wheelchair users!
