You’ll hear many of the sounds that marked their connection with nature: the call of cranes, the dip of crabs into the water, and the gentle lapping of waves against natural rock formations. The arches of the mangrove roots will remind you of cathedrals, and indeed, the Taínos (although they didn’t have churches) were deeply spiritual. Once you’ve set out with our guide, you’ll enjoy the rich variety of birds, reptiles, and fish of the mangroves. Next, you’ll be able to visit some of the caves that were especially important to the Taínos. They traveled from cave to cave visit wise men, take shelter from hurricanes, and as meeting points with other tribes. Boat taxis depart regularly from the Samaná port on Avenida Marina, bringing visitors to this tiny island daily. This Hiking Trail + Kayaking Tour starts from Caño Hondo/Sabana de La Mar port. We will hike around 3 hours along the Humid Forest in the Los Haitises National Park. You will learn about the medicinal plants of this area, see the broadleaf forest primary and secondary Los Haitises National Park mountains and at the same time reach the spring of the Jivales River from which the waters of the natural pools of Eco-lodge Caño Hondo. Then we take the equipment required for your safety (Lifejackets, etc), kayaks and going through mangrove swamps. You will see some bird-filled mangroves, rolling hills of lush vegetation. Through the mangroves and Land at the open San Lorenzo Bay, from where you can photograph the rugged forest landscape.

This tour is the same as the hotel's tour of the National Park only cheaper. The Los Haitises National Park Preserve is a beautiful, untouched, lush rainforest area full of islands with tropical birds, mangroves and large caves. Then it's off across the Samana Bay. Enjoy the scenery of the Samana peninsula from a new vantage point that you don't get anywhere else. Arrive at the famous Cayo Levantado (or Bacardi Island as some know it due to the famous Bacardi comercial shot here in the 80's)  for the afternoon.  After delicious healthy lunch, enjoy the beach till we leave around 4 to 4:30 pm.

During this part of your trip you will navigate around the mangrove forest which is the second largest on the island with more than 90 Km2 and when you get to San Lorenzo Bay you’ll see Samana Peninsula and Bay.
