At 947m above the sea level rises Pico da Barrosa, where throughout the route we can observe the diversity of the local fauna and flora. An enormous crater hides the glamorous Lagoa do Fogo at the top of the Fogo (Fire) Volcano at 575m above sea level. The beauty of the scenery sharpens ours senses with the luxurious vegetation – some endemic – from a spectacular landscape that reveals the magnificence of what nature presents us, on a journey that will last in your memory.

The tour is made comfortably in a jeep Land Rover properly equipped for the purpose and is perfect for those who want to have a off-road experience in São Miguel Island. This jeep will begin in Pico da Barrosa, where you can see both north and south part of the island. Then you´ll be able to enjoy Lagoa do Fogo viewpoint and Interpretation Center of Caldeira Velha. The beautiful waterfall of Salto Do Cabrito and the city of Ribeira Grande you´ll delight your experience with Azores For All. NOTE: a minimum of 2 persons is required.

Visit the Lagoa do Fogo Caldeira. We take some secondary roads to get the best views that others miss out on. At the top of Pico da Barrosa the highest point is 947 meters. It is here that we find some of the most spectacular views of the island.

Half Day Lagoa Do Fogo and Gin Library Tour


Discover the central crater of Lagoa do Fogo crater. Relax at the end of the day sipping a local gin at the Gin Library. Departing from Ponta Delgada, we head to Lagoa do Fogo, one of the largest waterbodies in the Azores, located in the central area of the island of São Miguel. The last eruption occurred in 1563. From this view point we can see both the north and southern coasts and the beautiful glimmering waters of the fire lake. After taking in the beautiful view of Lagoa do Fogo we will head to Santa Barbara beach. A wide shoreline of dark sand with high cliffs & brisk waters, popular with surfers & bodyboarders. A refreshing Gin awaits us at the next stop. The Gin Library. Visit Europe’s largest collection of gin here on the island of Sao Miguel. Taste the local Azorean gins, Ghosts of The Ocean and Rocha Negra as you learn about the history of all things juniper at The Gin Library.

This is a kind of guided tour, you don't want to miss, we stop to visit the best places, most of them have wonderful view points in the top of the volcanic craters, where we can see very unique views.


Lagoa do Fogo Volcano and Caldeira Velha Hot Springs


Be picked up from Ponta Delgada and start by visiting a local pottery factory. View a colorful assortment of pots, cups, tiles, and plates at the Cerâmica Vieira pottery factory. Travel to the Fogo Lake and take in its verdant shores and turquoise waters. Head to the hot springs of Caldeira Velha for an hour of free time where you can purchase a ticket to soak in the waters of the hot springs. Stop for a quick lunch break in the center of Ribeira Grande, for some traditional dishes. After lunch make a stop at Gorreana, the only tea plantation in Europe. Admire the lush green layered crops before continuing to 4 viewpoints where you can take pictures of the highlands and the coast. NOTE: If you wish to bathe in the hot springs, please message us upon booking, to reserve the tickets. All passengers must be ready at the designated pickup location at 8:45 a.m. Delays may be expected, due to traffic, high number of passengers or other reasons.

On this excursion you will be able to enjoy the second largest lagoon on the island of São Miguel, the Lagoa do Fogo, visit the Liqueur Factory "Mulher de Capote", as well as the opportunity to see some of the island's landscapes during the stop at the Belvedere da Serra da Barrosa!


Lagoa do Fogo, Hike Salto do Cabrito and Hotsprings


Amazing hike in the central part of the island at the bottom of the volcano of Lagoa do Fogo, where you will hike among lush vegetation, water streams and a beautiful natural waterfall that you can even swim in. In the end of the hike, you will also have the opportunity to relax on the hotsprings that are naturally heated by Lagoa do Fogo volcano. Also included in this tour is one of the most important views of the Island – the viewpoint to the caldera of Lagoa do Fogo – one of the seven wonders of Portugal! This hike takes around 2 hours and 30 minutes to complete and it is 8.5 km (5.2miles) long with a medium difficulty level.
