We will visit one of the most beautiful and original towns in the province of Malaga with caves that were populated more than 5,000 years ago. We will also visit the most sought-after town in the province of Malaga, Ronda. City located on a deep gorge (the Tagus), which separates the new 15th century city from the old town, which dates back to the time of Arab rule. We will enjoy the visit to the 18th century bullring, the Puente Nuevo and the viewpoints, among other places to highlight during the visit to the city of Ronda. The archaeological site of Cañada de la Virgen is located just 25 kilometers West of San Miguel de Allende. Occupied between 540 and 1050 a.d., it is perched upon a small mesa surrounded by canyons and is made up of four patio/pyramid complexes, an ancient artificial pond and a ceremonial causeway covering the 16 hectares that is now government property. We will walk through its streets and discover its most significant monuments, such as the cathedral or La Plaza del Adelantado. You will have time to have lunch and taste the rich Canarian cuisine in one of the charming restaurants in the city. We will continue our path until we enter the Anaga massif, an impressive natural area declared a Biosphere Reserve in 2015 by UNESCO for its extraordinary biodiversity. Here we will visit some of its most representative viewpoints, such as the Mirador de la Jardina or the Mirador Cruz del Carmen.

For an unforgettable and exclusive hike, away from the masses, don’t miss our trip to Arco de Las Peñitas. The day will be completed with a visit of a charming village of Ajuy and it’s caves. Las Peñitas: Begin your adventure with a scenic drive across the island, a journey of about an hour that offers breathtaking views and a glimpse of the island’s otherworldly landscapes. Upon arrival, you’ll start at the bottom of the canyon, immersing yourself in the natural beauty of the area. As you make your way toward the charming chapel, nestled in the canyon. Arco de Las Peñitas: The climb to the Arco de Las Peñitas is a thrilling ascent that rewards you with breathtaking views at every step. Lunch at Ajuy: After your exploration, enjoy a delicious, rich sandwich lunch provided for you at the cliffs of the charming village of Ajuy. Ajuy Caves: Access the caves via a short 500-meter path from Ajuy. Discover the island’s oldest fossil dunes and historic lime holes along the way.

Alberto Aveleyra has been doing research on the site since 2017, when he presented a paper about the prehispánic routes of access to the site in the 3rd International Congress of Ethnohistory. This year, 2021, an article where he shows his first research results is going to appear in a book about the Royal Road of Guanajuato. His research proposes that this site probably is the sanctuary of Chicomoztoc, a place referred in multiple indigenous historical sources, this discovery drove him to start a PhD in Mesoamerican studies in the National University of Mexico, he is now in the selection process, if he is succesful, he´ll start his degree in August 2021. The last 4 years of fieldwork and codex analysis have been founded through the tours he runs in the site. When you hire his tours you are contributing and supporting his research, creating a new way to do cultural anthropology in Mexico.

We will visit Setenil de las Bodegas where we will have free time to walk through the charming town of La Serranía, where the houses are dug into the mountain. We will arrive in Ronda, which is one of the most beautiful and historic towns in Andalusia. Local guides from Ronda will be in charge of carrying out the visit in a very pleasant way in which they will explain the history of Ronda, gastronomy and customs. We will visit one of the oldest Bullrings and its Bullfighting Museum (TUESDAYS DO NOT INCLUDE TICKETS TO PLAZA BULLS OR BULLFIGHTING MUSEUM). We will walk through the Plaza de España and Puente Nuevo without forgetting the Tajo de Ronda, Church of Santa María. We will start our tour in San Miguel de Allende, and after a 30 minutes trip we'll get to Canada de la Virgen. There, we'll be taken by a small bus close to the pyramids, then we walk 1 kilometer (3,300 feet) to get there. The tour in the pyramids is walking and has a duration of two hours, including the bus shuttle. When we finish the tour, we walk back to the bus that will take us to our vehicle. We'll go to Rossana's place to have lunch made with local ingredients that have been used by the natives for hundreds of years, plus handmade tortillas and food made by local people who know how to mix all these ingredients to make a delicious meal. At the restaurant there is a small museum exhibiting photos, where we can have a better understanding about the relation between the pyramids in Canada de la Virgen with the sun and the moon. After lunch we head back to San Miguel de Allende to see the highlights of the city in a 2 hours tour.
