Constructed in 1713, the Old State House was the center of royal government in the Massachusetts Bay colony and the focal point for many of the Revolution’s most dramatic events. It was here that the Boston Massacre occurred in 1770. Built in 1729, the Old South Meeting House was the largest building in colonial Boston and the site of the most stirring mass meetings that led to the American Revolution, including the gathering that led to the Boston Tea Party. Today, these historic sites and museums—located just two blocks from each other in the heart of downtown Boston—provide exhibits, tours, educational offerings, gallery talks, and public programs. This calligraphy workshop focuses on creating text related to the surrounding hot spring region of Beppu. Participants can learn how to write words such as '温泉' – 'onsen' (meaning 'hot spring') and '地獄' – 'jigoku' (meaning 'hell'), under the guidance of a friendly local instructor. As well as being able to take your one-of-a-kind masterpiece home with you, this is also a fantastic opportunity to immerse yourself in the charm of traditional Japanese culture, learning not only technique but also Japanese calligraphy etiquette.

Take a rare look inside an original 17th century mansion built by ship captain Stephen Daniels in 1667. We’ll start in the old Parlor, richly decorated with antiques and historic details: low ceilings, an original fireplace and wide-pine floors. A selection of historical twas are provided; the same types drank in this house in the 1700s. Then we’ll immerse ourselves in the old rustic kitchen for a glimpse of what daily life was like when Salem was on the frontier; complete with 9’ cooking fireplace and protection marks carved into the wood to ward off the evils of the world. Throughout you’ll get an intimate look at original details from the Witch Trials, American Revolution and beyond. You can sit in the furniture, touch the objects, take all the photos. This house is not a museum nor a reproduction; it's an original home representing over 350 years of daily life. Ticket proceeds go toward preservation of the House.
