The Real Tour of Communism will take you through all of the major aspects regarding the life under communist rule in Romania which lasted officially from 1948 to 1989. The Communism era was marked by the dictator Nicolae Ceausescu who ruled Romania for most of this period (1965-1989). We will discover the landmarks of the Communist era to understand how the city's architecture was influenced and changed for ever. But also the former locations of the Secret Police where Romanians were interrogated and tortured too. The tour ends in the Revolution Square where Nicolae Ceausescu had his last speech on Dec 21st 1989 few days before he was executed together with his wife.

Not only will you discover how the average Czech lived, worked and played under communism, but you will also hear stories and anecdotes from your local guide, who will bring the old days back to life!  You will also see historical photos of the events, people, buildings and statues, many of them now destroyed. At first, we visit iconic places of the communist period and you will learn about recent history of former Czechoslovakia. Then we enjoy 30-mins break for a lunch or Kofola drink in an authentic working-class canteen from 70s (optional). Finally we visit a Nuclear bunker, which evoke the paranoia of the 1950's. The bunker admission fee 250CZK (10 EUR) is included in the price. We like dialogue, so the group size is limited up to 15 people.

You will go off the beaten path and take advantage of Bucharest's great public transportation to get to the Memorial Cemetery of the Heroes of 1989 and a unique Monument for the leaders of the communist party. You will also explore the Civic Center and the exterior of the Palace of Parliament and learn about the achievements of architects, but also the sacrifices for the local community, demolitions and saving of churches during the 1980s. You will finish the walk near Parliament and the old town.

This is a walking tour in Bucharest, using a normal pace. At the end of the 3 hours you will have most of your questions about the regime answered but you will also have the opportunity to ask any further ones to your guide. You will also understand how the regime that ended more than 30 years ago still influences Romania(n)'s life.

Meet your tour guide at the beautiful Chagall Four Seasons mosaic as we begin our Creativity & Community neighborhood tour. After a short walk, we'll catch the Pink Line at the renovated Quincy L station (opened in 1897) and make our way to Pilsen — a vibrant neighborhood just southwest of the Loop originally settled by Czech immigrants. Pilsen ranks #10 on the Forbes magazine list of the "15 Coolest Neighborhoods in the World." Upon arrival in Pilsen, we'll take a break and grab a taste of authentic Mexican cuisine. Afterwards, we'll stroll the neighborhood where we'll view numerous public murals and learn about the architecture that is unique to Pilsen. We'll arrive at the renowned National Museum of Mexican Art and experience it's changing and permanent exhibitions. After that, we’ll hop back on the Pink line train to the Loop and wrap things up at the famous Picasso sculpture in Daley Plaza.

Discover the philosophers that shaped the communist ideology and find out how it was first implemented in Russia and then Eastern Europe. Learn about Ceausescu and life in communist Romania. Immerse into the middle of the Socialist Victory boulevard, the starting point of the tour and the last megalomaniac communist project. Discover the Chamber of Deputies Palace and how the society was shaped before communist ruling. Learn about Ceausescu's poor background and his rise to power. Ceausescu’s regime is considered to be the most oppressive communist regime in the Eastern Bloc, very similar to the Kim dynasty in North Korea, which made his rule in Romania like no other. Find out about the life in communism, from food rationing to the secret police. Last point will be the Revolution Square where a group of agitators plotted the end of Ceausescu's Regime.

This is a guided tour of a village with historic temples, stepwells and a royal palace (now a luxury hotel). The tour guides grew up in the village and still live there and will introduce travellers to its villagers and artisans who themselves can provide guided instruction on their arts, for example pottery, jewellery and stitching. The guides will also take travellers into old temples, access to which is normally restricted to worshipers. The tour provides a unique opportunity to see a real part of India which is not otherwise seen by tourists and to learn about its way of life. The tour is in fact an initiative of the NGO Seva Mandir in order to help preserve and highlight the unique heritage of Delwara and to provide job opportunities to its young guides who run the tour.

The best place to get more information about Albania’s communism régime years is the National History Museum which has a large hall dedicated to the period. In this hall you’ll be briefed about communism dictatorship in Albania, where you’ll be introduced starting from the 2nd WW’s communism birth, full installation, prisons, political judgments, death penalties, bunkers, etc. until the first democratic protests, and finally the installation of democracy in 90’s. We have a walking tour to visit all main attractions of Tirana, including the possibility to visit Bunkart 2 and Museum of Secret Services "Shtepia e Gjetheve", etc.

You will start the day with a village walking tour in one of the best fisherman villages in Zanzibar where Assalam Community Foundation is based. After the tour you will refresh with coffee and snacks break in our beautiful Jetsi where you will be sitting on top of ocean and enjoy the view. A trip until the heart of Titicaca lake, to discover the traditions and the culture of Taquile Island, where the community lives defending its authenticity and simplicity.

This Community Tour aims to uplift the lives of the slum dwellers, by 1) creating a conduit for them to achieve economic empowerment through income generated from these visits and 2) support the emotional well-being of slum dwellers by creating a platform where they can share stories, get encouragement, make new friends, and remove the stigma of HIV. The tour guides are mothers who were born and brought up in Mathare, now taking care of their children and those left behind by their relatives or neighbors who died, got incarcerated or varnished without a trace. The women will welcome you to their houses to see how they live, care for those ravaged by the H.I.V scourge and other maladies, help you experience their daily life, share with you their gripping stories of how they ended up living in the slums as well how they cope with life. The security-guards are the reformed youths within the slums, who have become role models to others to stay away from the vices.

Comuna 20 is made up of 11 neighborhoods, of which the most recognized is Siloé. The whole stigma of violence has made its inhabitants seek a positive change, by working for tourism, entrepreneurship and local culture. What is unique is that you'll get to know the working force of this community who struggle to have a way of living while showing the art, the culture and their creativity to make a great experience to visit them.
