Butterfly Tour

We have moved to a new location! We are now located at 820 Olowalu Village Rd, next to the Olowalu General Store on the way to Lahaina! We are the oldest butterfly farm in Hawaii and the only one that offers private tours of a butterfly farm in the State. We are a certified Monarch Waystation and strive to save the butterflies through propagation, research and education. We’re the only place in the Islands to see live Hawaiian butterflies in our walk in butterfly flight house. Unlike Mainland butterfly farms, all of our butterflies are home bred and hand raised on our organic farm. We do not purchase or ship in our butterflies from abroad, therefore all of our butterflies are endemic to Hawaii.

Conveniently located just 5 minutes from the world famous Butchart Gardens, Victoria Butterfly Gardens offers a fun and educational experience for the whole family. With our ever-changing tropical rain forest environment, there is always something new for everyone of all ages to discover. A relaxing tour Of Rhodes visiting the Valley of Butterflies, the unique and peaceful ecological setting, being a true pride of nature with narrow rock walkways, lakes decorated by water-lilies, rustic bridges, running waters, waterfalls and resting places loaded with millions of brown-red butterflies. There is also a museum that you can visit with a large variety of different species. After a short drive we will ascent to the top of Filerimos Hill, where you will visit the monastery of Our Lady and the remains of the ancient acropolis of Ialyssos, one of the three ancient cities of Rhodes Island. Visitors can walk along a "Golgotha", a tree sheltered pathway with a series of shrines with scenes of the Holly Passion. This foot way leads to an enormous imposing cross, from the top of which one can cherish the outstanding view of villages and bright green valleys that are generously stretched around.

Our project has been initiated in 2019 and was created with lots of love and passion. Our mission is to educate about these elusive fragile creatures and their significance, recover threatened pollinators, increase numbers of widespread species, and inspire people to understand them, deliver butterfly conservation, as well as promote awareness and protection actions in our diverse ecosystem. We are dedicated to environmental improvements that foster a sustainable future for generations to come and lead to social and economical improvements of our community. On our famous Guide-Assisted Tour you will experience being surrounded by butterflies while going through our four large Butterfly Exhibition Habitats, including a Live Demonstration of the Butterfly Life-Cycle and the Amazing Metamorphosis, but you see so much more on this tour. The Conservatory is a Forest Creation Project demonstrating natural rainforest regeneration in the Arenal area of Costa Rica, and now many Tropical Species of Animals and Birds are finding habitat in our sanctuary. In the Habitat for Exotic Frogs and Turtles, you will see some of the Poison Dart frogs and other species of amphibians from the Arenal rainforest. You choose the trails through the forest, with your Map of the Project and Encounter your Awareness of Nature walking through the Botanical Gardens and Medicinal Herb gardens. In the Reception Center is a large collection of unusual Tropical Insects in our Insect Museum, and a souvenir shop with Jewelry and framed art made with butterfly wings.

Our tours are a little over an hour in length, and include the following: An introduction to Costa Rica bugs, and an orientation to the Gardens An up-close experience with a variety of insects and arachnids A look at our rearing chamber, where caterpillars are becoming butterflies A stroll through our 3 unique gardens, full of spectacular butterflies. The most valuable part of every admission to the Monteverde Butterfly Gardens is a tour with one of our dedicated and passionate guides. Available in English or Spanish our tours will take you through each section of the insectarium and gardens. With our guide at your side, you will see and learn far more than you ever would by yourself. Our guides love bugs! Our guide will provide lots of interesting information as the tour progresses. This Sanctuary is a conservation project started by a family who purchased a hill slope and converted it into a forest. Visitors also come to see the unique, one of its kind rooftop garden with integrated rainwater harvesting system in India.
