Embark on an exploration of the Panthéon, an architectural gem crafted by Soufflot (1713-1780), which transitioned from a church to the final resting place for renowned figures from France’s Revolutionary era. Discover a significant exhibition honoring Jacques-Germain Soufflot, lauded as one of France's foremost architects. This exhibit takes you through his professional journey and remarkable projects, notably including the royal Church of Sainte-Geneviève, now known as the Panthéon. Since Victor Hugo passed away in 1885, this grand space has become a burial ground for illustrious French writers, scientists, military leaders, clergy members, and political figures. The crypt is home to more than 70 prominent tombs featuring personalities such as Voltaire, Jean-Jacques Rousseau, Emile Zola, Alexandre Dumas; along with Pierre and Marie Curie. A portion of your ticket price goes toward our ongoing restoration efforts. Just a short walk from City Park is St. Louis Cemetery No.3, on stately Esplanade Avenue. This beautiful Catholic cemetery near tranquil Bayou St. John is an ideal place to stroll among the tombs as you learn about the burial customs of New Orleans and hear the real stories of the famous and infamous that fascinate the world and locals alike. St. Louis No. 3 is the final resting place of notable architect James Gallier, Storyville photographer E.J. Bellocq, and New Orleans chefs Leah Chase and Paul Prudhomme.
