Bay Fundy

This tour is 6+ hours long tour with 3 different sized passenger buses. This is available only for tourists visiting via Cruise ships or privately booked events with a minimum of 10 people. The smallest bus holds 20 passengers, the medium bus holds 24 passengers, and the largest bus holds 33 passengers. There is some easy walking involved on this tour, so please wear comfortable shoes. Please note that there will be some minor waiting required since passengers need to leave the cruise ship and then get into the bus. We cannot leave until all the passengers in the group have been seated in the bus. ***Please note: Our season begins March 1st and ends around November 15th. Welcome to Canada’s first City, the only city on the Bay of Fundy, home of the world’s highest tides. Meet at Area 506 Waterfront Container Village entrance, and proceed along historic Water Street to Market Square to access the City’s indoor pedway system. This avoids an uphill walk on King St, the steepest main street in Canada. The tour is flat, with a downhill section near the end. Copies of rare photos are used during the tour. Historical facts are featured, from 1783 until the present day. Your knowledgeable guide will focus on numerous points of interest and hidden gems including the history of Saint John over the last 242 years. The final part of the tour is on Prince William St, once known as the Wall St of Canada.

The Hopewell Rocks are located along the Bay of Fundy and are home of the highest tides in the world. An iconic and popular place for ocean tidal exploration, it offers a unique natural experience of both high and low tides. Your tour includes a visit to the seaside community of St. Martins. Step back in time and sense the serenity of this area with its wharf, fishing boats, and piled lobster traps. With the ocean as a backdrop, you'll capture memorable photos of many interesting features including lighthouses and twin covered bridges. If the tide is low enough, visit the wave-carved sea caves. Learn about this small community's wooden ship building industry and see some of the highest tides in the world ebb and flow during your visit. You'll also visit the famous Reversing Falls Rapids where the huge tides from the Bay of Fundy force the mighty Saint John River. Before returning to the cruise ship, we'll stop and explore the unique Old City Market in the heart of Saint John and learn why the local folks have loved to buy fresh produce here since 1876. Please note: DEPARTURE TIME is determined based on cruise ship arrival times on the day. You will receive a message with the local departure time.

Enjoy a scenic drive to the Annapolis Valley to experience 3 award winning wineries. Sip your way through Nova Scotia wine country and learn about our cool climate wines. Stop one includes a tour/tasting at the first winery. At the second winery enjoy a guided tasting and lunch with wine at Luckett Vineyards, overlooking the beautiful Minas Basin fed by the Bay of Fundy (Luckett Vineyards is only available during May-December). Finally, visit a third winery after lunch for a final guided tasting before heading back to Halifax.

The Bay of Fundy's shape and prevailing ocean currents conspire to create the highest tides in the world. Experience what happens as 3,680 billion cubic feet of water pour in and out of the "funnel" not once but twice each day. Boats and even ocean-going ships can be stranded high and dry. Vast tidal flats are waiting to be explored. That's how Hall's Harbour began in 1779 – as a pirate base for local scalawag Samuel Hall, his native Mi'Kmaq girlfriend and a band of cutthroat Yankee privateers. They would prey on the Planters and Loyalists to the British Crown. Finally, remember that this is a real fishing village, one that takes its living from the sea – not one created to please tourists. The fishermen and other village folk are usually busy with their work, but you'll find that they will often take the time to pass time the with visitors to their community. Nova Scotia boasts some of the finest wineries in Canada. Known for its historic maritime climate, culture, fantastic beaches, the Bay of Fundy's record tides now add a great wine to that list. The earliest vines in Nova Scotia were planted around 1610 by Champlain's hard-working band of settlers. It was and still is great to relax to a glass of wine after a hard day's work. Today the wine industry in Nova Scotia has grown to become a proud addition to the province's economy. We will begin our tour with the narration of the areas of our intended sites. Our first visit will be at the Domaine de Grand Pre Winery, where we will spend about two hours exploring this site. We will spend the day investigating the various vineyards where you can take in the beauty and sample their unique offerings. This is a day that is spent outdoors so please dress appropriately for this tour. Walking shoes are ideal. We also offer private tours.
