The tour consists of the tour of a 1.5 km long circuit along the channel of the river Algar (“cave” in Arabic) to see the landscape resulting from the karst modeling of the limestone rock: the spectacular waterfalls; the many springs that spring from the en doroca; the “tolls” of pure and crystal clear waters, formerly considered as a “source of health”; the ancient dam, the imposing canal and the centuries-old ditches still in use today. Dare to try out the best we have for an afternoon. First, we go to heaven, driving by car to Serra da Ribeirinha. An amazing view of the city, the Monte Brasil volcano, and Vila de São Mateus. On most days, you may even be surprised to see the island of São Jorge and the island of Pico with its imposing mountain. A few steps and you have a view of Ilhéu das Cabras islet , Fradinhos islet, and the entire south coast, lots of cows, and green fields with typical dry-stone walls.
