Passing from the Achillion Palace, built for the Empress Elizabeth of Austria (Sissy), this walk takes you on an exploration of “Gastourion” village and to the summit of Mount “Agia Kyriaki” (288 meters). The hike has many spots associated with the Empress, and there are several lovely viewpoints which the best of all is up to the chapel, facing the magnificent view of east coast with picturesque “Pontikonisi” (Mouse Island) and Corfu Town. The walk is mostly inside dense vegetation and part on road.

The tour will star with a pick up form your hotel or a nearby point. After approximately 1,5 hour drive through a beautiful landscape, we reach the picturesque village of Sougia. From there we will continue our tour with boat following the coastline to the Village of Agia Roumeli ! During your stay in the village you will have plenty of time to cross Samaria Gorge from its exit to the Iron Gates. The distance you can walk is 3 km form the village to the entrance of gorge and 1,5 km further up to the Iron Gates , one of the most interesting points of the gorge! Late in the afternoon we will take the same boat to get back to the port of Chora Sfakion where our coach will be waiting for us in order to drive back to Chania .

On your Samaria gorge adventure, the bus will take you first along the north coast and then up into the White Mountains to the Omalos Plateau and the entrance to the gorge. There, at a height of 1.100m, you will begin the 16km walk through the longest and most beautiful gorge in Europe. After the strenuous but spectacular walk, you will be conveyed by boat on an equally glorious trip from Agia Roumeli, the village at the end of the gorge, to Chora Sfakion, where the bus will be waiting to take you back home. Good walking shoes are necessary. The hike is not suggested for people facing health problems, or suffering from conditions affecting their lower extremities the elderly pregnant women.
